New border-char-horizontal and border-char-vertical config settings in
aerc.conf allow users to modify border appearance from the default
1-wide/tall blank space. In stylesets, border.fg now affects the
foreground color when custom characters are defined.

Display threads in the message list. For now, only supported by the
notmuch backend and on IMAP when the server supports the THREAD
extension.
Setting threading-enable=true is global and will cause the message list
to be empty with maildir:// accounts.

When composing a message, there is an empty fill line between the
headers and the text editor. The line is printed with the default style
which may cause users to assume it is part of the editor.
Display the fill lines with the border color to avoid confusion.

When a message has been sent today (or this year) allow formatting the
date differently.
For example, with:
[ui]
index-format=%-25.25n %-25.25D %s
timestamp-format=2006 Jan 02, 15:04 GMT-0700
this-day-time-format=Today at 15:04
this-year-time-format=Jan 02
The message list would look like this (spaces collapsed):
Robin Jarry Today at 16:30 [PATCH 1/2] bindings: prepare for more modifers

* Get rid of open_darwin
It just lead to code duplication for a simple one string change.
Instead we query it during initialization
* Accept user provided arguments
"open" on MacOS accepts things like -A to use a specific application
Pass trough arguments the user provided in order to facilitate this
* Refactor the function to a struct
This makes it more convenient for the caller and avoids signatures like
lib.OpenFile(nil, u.String(), nil) which are fairly unreadable
Also update to the tcell v2 PaletteColor api, which should keep the chosen
theme of the user intact.
Note, that if $TRUECOLOR is defined and a truecolor given, aerc will now stop
clipping the value to one of the theme colors.
Generally this is desired behaviour though.
Prior to this commit, the composer was based on a map[string]string.
While this approach was very versatile, it lead to a constant encoding / decoding
of addresses and other headers.
This commit switches to a different model, where the composer is based on a header.
Commands which want to interact with it can simply set some defaults they would
like to have. Users can overwrite them however they like.
In order to get access to the functions generating / getting the msgid go-message
was upgraded.
We made a new type out of go-message/mail.Address without any real reason.
This suddenly made it necessary to convert from one to the other without actually
having any benefit whatsoever.
This commit gets rid of the additional type
Go pre 1.15 parsed an empty string as an error, 1.15 did not but this was
unintentional as per https://github.com/golang/go/issues/40803
Fix the comment accordingly
Go 1.15 handles "" in the address parser as a non error case, returning
an empty list.
Prior versions returned an error, which is not what we want.

This allows us to hook into the std libs implementation of parsing related stuff.
For this, we need to get rid of the distinction between a mailbox and a host
to just a single "address" field.
However this is already the common case. All but one users immediately
concatenated the mbox/domain to a single address.
So this in effects makes it simpler for most cases and we simply do the
transformation in the special case.
This piggybacks on the existing IMAP support, and uses the same
configuration format (my local testing example has the IMAP and SMTP
lines almost copy-pasted from one another).
It's a little clumsy in that a new token is negotiated for every
`Send()` command, but it's a start...
If a message date would fail to parse, the worker would never receive
the MessageInfo it asked for, and so it wouldn't display the message.
The problem is the spec for date formats is too lax, so trying to ensure
we can parse every weird date format out there is not a strategy we want
to pursue. On the other hand, preventing the user from reading and
working with a message due to the error format is also not a solution.
The maildir and notmuch workers will now fallback to the internal date, which
is based on the received header if we can't parse the format of the Date header.
The UI will also fallback to the received header whenever the date header can't
be parsed.
This patch is based on the work done by Lyudmil Angelov <lyudmilangelov@gmail.com>
But tries to handle a parsing error a bit more gracefully instead of just returning
the zero date.
Introduce the ability to configure stylesets, allowing customization of
aerc's look (color scheme, font weight, etc). Default styleset is
installed to /path/to/aerc/stylesets/default.
Introduce the ability to configure stylesets, allowing customization of
aerc's look (color scheme, font weight, etc). Default styleset is
installed to /path/to/aerc/stylesets/default.
Aerc usually used the path []int{1} if it didn't know what the proper path is.
However this only works for multipart messages and breaks if it isn't one.
This patch removes all the hard coding and extracts the necessary helpers to lib.
More mail flags can now be set, unset, and toggled, not just the
read/seen flag.
This functionality is implemented with a new `:flag` and `:unflag`
command, which are extensions to the matching `:read` and `:unread`
commands, adding support for different flags. In fact, the
`read`/`unread` commands are now recognized aliases to `flag`/`unflag`.
The new commands are also well documented in aerc(1).
The change mostly extends the previous read/unread setting functionality
by adding a selection for the flag to change.
This stops the ui being blocked while the resource is opened. The wait
ensures that resources are reclaimed when the process finishes while
aerc is still running.
The data was passed around as a string for some reason, which led to time
precision loss and wrong dates being displayed.
Simply pass the time as is to fix that.
The grid used static sizes which meant that changing settings didn't
have an effect on elements of the ui, notably the sidebar width. This
patch makes the `Size` parameter of a cell a function which returns the
`int`, allowing for dynamic sizes.
A `Const` function is also included for ease of use for static sizes.
The following functionalities are added to configure aerc ui styles.
- Read stylesets from file with very basic fnmatch wildcard matching
- Add default styleset
- Support different stylesets as part of UiConfig allowing contextual
styles.
- Move widgets/ui elements to use the stylesets.
- Add configuration manual for the styleset
Currently at least the notmuch and maildir worker only set messages as read
if a body part is fetched. The gpg abstraction however fetches the full message.
We can simply set the readstate when we create the messageview, avoiding the issue.
Once this is merged, we can cleanup both workers.
Due to headers being essentially free text, we constantly run into issues
with parts of the body being interpreted as headers.
Remove the ability to overwrite headers to avoid that, while keeping the ability
to specify headers in the template files.
Fixes#383
This adds the commands pin-tab and unpin-tab. Once pinned a tab lives on
the left of the tabstrip and has a configurable marker, defaulting to `
before its name.
This changes the ui to show the spinner while we are sorting. It only
shows one line of the spinner since there are an unknown number of
messages at this time.
Hi. This adds a template function to convert a time to the local time zone. And modifies
the default quoted_reply template to use it and show the time zone when formatting the
timestamp of the quoted message.
Previously, the quoted message timestamp was UTC and it would format it without the time
zone. And I thought it might be a little confusing or weird to some normal people when I
email them and I don't want normal people to be confused or think that I'm weird.
Apparently sending an event for every incoming messageInfo slows down
the application significantly.
Therefore this slows down the emmision rate, on the cost of being out of date
in some cases.
This reverts commit bd4df53009.
I did not properly untangle the opening / dirlist update of each other.
This interferes with the imap worker, hence the revert
Actions such as read / unread or the addition of new messages do change
the read/unread/recent count. Hence we request an update from the workers.
Workers going over the network should probably cache the information and invalidate
it only if necessary
Previously, sending a DirectoryInfo assumed that a directory change
happened. However we don't want that if we only want to update the
unread message count.
If the message doesn't contain ':', we don't properly discard the
message, so we end up slicing it like msg[:-1].
This can be reproduced if one runs 'aerc foo', as the server receives
'foo' as the message.
'aerc foo' still doesn't do anything very user friendly, but at least it
doesn't panic horribly.
While at it, do the 'got message' log at the very beginning, so that the
user can see what message the server got before reporting the command as
invalid.

Previously the workers returned a mixture of decoded / encoded parts.
This lead to a whole bunch of issues.
This commit changes the msgviewer and the commands to assume parts to already
be decoded
Before, pressing <Enter> when completions were visible would execute the
selected completion. As soon as completions were provided, the first
item would be selected. This could cause issues e.g. when changing
folders:
:cf <Enter>
Previously, this would have selected the first folder in the list. Now,
since <Tab>, <C-n>, etc have not been pressed to select the first
completion, the command above simply executes `:cf `.
To accomplish this, a "no-op completion" has been added at index -1.
Note that, until we get color configuration, this means that the user *must*
have the %Z verb in the index format else it'll be horribly confusing
as no visual indication is provided
Rather than showing completions inline in the text input, show them in a
popover which can be scrolled by repeatedly pressing the tab key. The
selected completion can be executed by pressing enter.
A popover is a special UI element which can be layered over the rest of
the UI (i.e. it is painted last) and can fall anywhere on the screen,
not just with the bounds of its parent's viewport/context. With these
special abilities comes the restriction that only one popover may be
visible on screen at once.
Popovers are requested from the UI context passed to Draw calls and
specify the anchor point and the desired dimensions. The popover is then
fit to the available space and placed relative to the anchor point.

The make that blows up is:
uids := make([]uint32, len(store.uids)-len(msg.Uids))
This change simply checks whether the make is going to be valid before
starting to work on the actual delete. If there are more messages queued
to be deleted than what's left in the store, then we're obviously in an
inconsistent state, ask for an update and break.
This addresses occasional crashes when a `MessageInfo` event reached the message
store before `DirectoryContents`, particularly on slower (imap) accounts.
Adds a message indicating the user's ability to :save or :pipe a message
with an unsupported mimetype and also adds a selector widget (similar to
the tutorial).
The selector widget was previously defined in the account wizard module,
so this commit breaks it out into its own module to allow for re-use.
Further, modify the BeginExLine() function to take an argument that
pre-populates the command line, allowing functions to initiate an ex
command without executing it.

Previously removing a tab would always pop from the history of tabs.
This checks to see if the closing tab is the one selected, if it is then
we use the history, otherwise we only need to change the selected tab if
it was after (to the right of) the closing tab, in which case we just
decrement the selected index.
When Reto Brunners patch is applied (which works really well for me), the user gets to see the message
returned by AercServer. Since this is nil if no errors were thrown it
prints "result: <nil>" to the cmd. This patch fixes that by just
returning success instead of the error message when err != nil.
There is a command and config option. The criteria are a list of the
sort criterion and each can be individually reversed.
This only includes support for sorting in the maildir backend currently.
The other backends are not supported in this patch.
Add an onUpdateDirs handler. This is used to invalidate the dirlist and
redraw with the correct number of recent/unread/total messages is shown.
A config option and formatting options are provided.
This adds the Mouseable interface. When this is implemented for a
component that item can accept and process mouseevents.
At the top level when a mouse event is received it is passed to the
grid's handler and then it trickles down until it reaches a component
that can actually handle it, such as the tablist, dirlist or msglist.
A mouse event is passed so that components can handle other things such
as scrolling with the mousewheel. The components themselves then perform
the necessary actions.
Clicking emails in the messagelist opens them in a new tab.
Textinputs can be clicked to position the cursor inside them.
Mouseevents are not forwarded to the terminal at the moment.
Elements which do not handle mouse events are not required to implement
the Mouseable interface.
Sometimes I observe out-of-order messages when using a maildir inbox. It
appears that the UIDs for these messages are returned out of order by
the MessageStore. In order for a maildir MessageStore to return messages
in most recently received order, it must have already opened all
messages and parsed the date to use as a sort key. Rather than implement
that, simply sort messages by time as we display. This fix shows my
emails in order.
