Quite a few things have changed since the time of my old AVS fork and there's a new SDK now: https://github.com/alexa/avs-device-sdk
However, it's not as straightforward to set up as the Google Assistant plugin, and it requires a heavy compilation step on the Raspberry Pi.
Investigate whether or not we want to spend efforts integrating with the new SDK (which may require releasing some binary versions at least for armvl7 and x86_64 to ease onboarding effort), or if we want to focus development efforts on other assistant integrations.
